Obituary for Charles D. "Chuck" Siferd

Retired Funeral Director and Former Owner of Siferd-Orians Funeral Home

Charles D. “Chuck” Siferd, 89, of Lima passed away Thursday evening, November 2, 2017 at his residence.  On May 7, 1928 in Lima he was born to Theodore W. and Geneva (Growdon) Siferd (both deceased).  He married  Wanda M. French on September 26, 1948 being  married almost  sixty five years; Wanda passed away on February 27, 2013.

After graduation from South High School in 1946, Chuck attended the University of Nevada-Reno and came back to Lima two years later to a summertime job at Siferd Funeral Home.  This funeral service occupation lasted fifty years.  His life as a funeral director as well as serving on various community activities meant that he made numerous friends and touched many lives in the Lima area; serving on the Church board, Past President of Lima Sertoma Club, Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees and a member of the local Filibusters Group.  He retired from funeral service in 1998. He was a member of South Side Christian Church and its “Young at Heart” Sunday School  Class, and he was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge. 

Chuck is survived by a special and great friend, Donna Lodico of Findlay, two sons, Daniel C. Siferd of Lima, William Dean (May) Siferd of Houston, Texas and a daughter, Beth E. (Jon) Salzwedel of Westerville, Ohio.  Als0 surviving are two grandsons, Aaron M. (Christa) Siferd of Lima, David J. Siferd of Marysville, Ohio; two great grandchildren, Camden M. and Addison R. Siferd both of Lima and a sister, Shirley Larson of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  He has many nieces and nephews who survive including Wanda’s niece Ruth (Bill) (French) Howser of Grove City.

Mr. Siferd was preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy Lou Spidel, Anita Newman, his brothers-in-law, Billy Newman , William C. French and his wife, Eleanor. 

He and his wife enjoyed many travel experiences and after his retirement he became active in the programs offered by the Johnny Appleseed Metro Park, volunteering for many of their activities.

Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at South Side Christian Church with Rev. Todd Cosart, officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call 2-6 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017  at SIFERD-ORIANS FUNERAL HOME.
